Scanning Concrete Sub-Floor – Martin Place, Sydney

Perfect Concrete Care was drafted by Lloyd Group to carry out Concrete Scanning investigations of concrete sub-floor in over seventeen locations throughout the site. To locate any services that might be running through the concrete sub-floor.

The Concrete Scanning Challenges

Estructura PTY Ltd engaged Perfect Concrete Care for this project. It consisted of Scanning a concrete sub-floor to identify any services within the concrete slab. To ensure that when sub-contractors were coring the slab to install pipes and wiring no pipes, data cables, live wires, or post-tension cables were hit.

Outline:

Post-tension cables are commonly used to reinforce concrete structures. These cables are placed into the concrete forms before they are placed. When the Concrete structure is in place, these cables are anchored and tension is then applied to the cables. This strengthens the entire concrete structure.

Techniques Adopted:

We inspected both floors of the site before they began scanning. So they could identify unexplained objects on the scan, such as steel beams, etc. This reduces time lost on the overall project.

Our team members located all wires and cables in the concrete sub-floor. They then marked them with green and pink spray paint. The site manager inspected our findings after we completed our last scan and was satisfied with the result and sent our full report to the engineer for approval.

The result:

The concrete sub-floor was scanned in all locations where coring was planned for and no services were located within the concrete slab.
