A new floor is only as good as the slab underneath it. Get the preparation wrong and the covering lifts, the membrane fails, or the coating never bonds.

What Preparation Actually Involves

Every flooring, coating and membrane manufacturer specifies a surface profile and a set of substrate conditions. Meeting them is the job.

• Assessment first. We look at what is on the slab, what is under it, moisture, and how sound the surface is, before quoting a method.
• Mechanical grinding to profile. Diamond grinding to the profile the system calls for, not just a clean-up pass.
• Removing what should not be there. Laitance, curing compounds, old adhesive, coatings and contamination. See coating and membrane removal.
• Making the surface flat. Grinding down high spots and patching low spots so the covering sits properly.
• Patch repairs. Spalls, blowholes and damaged areas made good before anything goes over the top, using our own concrete repair crews.
• Dust and silica control. Grinders run on H-class extraction. Respirable crystalline silica is the reason, and it is not negotiable on our sites.

• Retail fitouts and refurbishments. Carpet and vinyl out, slab prepared, new covering in, usually to a trading deadline.
• Before waterproofing. Wet areas, balconies, planters and plant rooms, prepared so the membrane bonds and the applicator is not held up.
• Car parks. Grinding, cleaning and preparing decks ahead of sealers and coatings.
• Industrial floors. Warehouse and factory slabs prepared for resin, epoxy or polyurethane systems.
• Before polishing. The first stage of any polished concrete floor.

Jobs We Have Done

Sleeping Giant, Prospect. 800 square metres of commercial carpet and adhesive removed from a high traffic slab, then the full floor prepared for the new retail covering.

St Marys. Wet area rectification and a full surface preparation package ahead of waterproofing. Slab ground to a consistent profile and patch repaired so the waterproofing contractor could start on time.
