Tendon Truncation

Cutting a penetration through a post-tensioned slab means dealing with live tendons. Get it wrong and you release stored energy with nowhere for it to go.

Perfect Concrete Care opens, truncates and reinstates penetrations through post-tensioned slabs for commercial, health, industrial and infrastructure projects across Sydney and wider NSW.

Have your engineer design the truncation. Send us the drawings and we will price it and do the work.

Why the Scan Comes First

On a regional NSW hospital redevelopment, the structural drawings showed 19 tendons. Our first scan from the top of the slab marked 21. A second scan, including one taken from underneath a beam, took the count to 26. Three sat at dead end anchorages and were not required, leaving 23 pockets to open.

Working from the drawings alone, seven tendons would have been somewhere nobody expected them. That is the difference between a scan and an assumption.

Our Tendon Truncation Process

  • Scan and mark the slab, including from underneath where the geometry needs it
  • Issue a scanning report your engineer can design from
  • Open and clean each pocket to the approved size and setout
  • Hold pockets open for engineer inspection and sign off
  • Epoxy fill and reinstate to the approved detail
  • Photograph and number every pocket for the project record

What We Do Not Do

We do not design the truncation and we do not sign it off. Your structural engineer specifies it and certifies it. We scan, we give them what they need to design from, and we deliver to their detail. If you would rather we put you onto an engineer we have worked with, just ask.

Why Choose Perfect Concrete Care?

  • Scanning and cutting under one contract, so nothing is lost between two subcontractors
  • Comfortable on live sites, including operating hospitals and occupied buildings
  • SWMS, inductions and quality records to head contractor systems
  • Pocket by pocket photographic records for your ITP

Putting the Capacity Back

Truncating a tendon removes capacity from the slab. On most jobs the engineer replaces it with bonded carbon fibre, and we install that as part of the same package. One contractor opens the slab and puts the capacity back, on one contract with one set of records.

Areas We Service in Sydney & New South Wales

Sydney metropolitan, the Central Coast, Newcastle and the Hunter, Wollongong and the Illawarra, and regional NSW where the job justifies the travel. Our Queensland office covers Brisbane and South East Queensland.

Post tensioned slab cutting by city

Where a penetration has to go through a post tensioned slab, we scan, open, truncate and reinstate the tendons to your structural engineer's design. City pages: Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

Request Tendon Truncation

Send through the structural drawings and the engineer's detail and we will come back with a price and a programme. If you are still working out whether the penetration is possible, send the drawings anyway and we will tell you straight.
