Perfect Concrete Care was recently engaged by ABACORP to deliver critical concrete remediation works at a multi-storey hostel located at 256–264 Glebe Point Road, Glebe, NSW.
Project Overview
The subject building is a four-storey, older-style multi-unit development used as a hostel, comprising a basement garage, multiple levels, and a concrete roof. A visual inspection conducted by a senior structural engineer on 18 June 2025 identified an area of the existing concrete slab suffering from significant concrete cancer. The issue was caused by long-term water ingress, resulting in the corrosion of reinforcement and deterioration of the slab in one corner of the structure.
The affected section was deemed critical to the overall structural integrity and required immediate attention.
Scope of Work
Perfect Concrete Care followed the recommended methodology outlined by the engineering report, which included:
- Marking and cutting the designated repair area to prevent further damage to surrounding concrete
- Removing all spalled, cracked, and loose concrete to expose corroded reinforcement
- Cleaning the reinforcement to Grade Sa 2.0 and treating it using Parchem Nitoprime Zincrich
- Installing Helifix PatchPins at required intervals for structural anchoring
- Reinstating the concrete using Parchem Renderoc HB25 and Antoun Mortar Mix
- Ensuring full compliance with all hold points, including engineer inspections and cover depth requirements
Outcome
All works were completed within a 1-week timeframe, and the deteriorated concrete section was fully repaired and reinstated in accordance with engineering standards. These remedial measures restored the slab’s integrity and addressed the root cause of the damage.
