The job
Epoca Constructions is a Brisbane builder working on civil, recreation and commercial projects. On a new public sports facility in Murarrie, they needed a curved, elevated concrete access ramp brought to a finished surface, and cracks in the concrete deck repaired, before handover.
Perfect Concrete Care did the concrete scarifying, grinding and crack injection over two weeks in November 2024, working inside a fenced zone while the rest of the site was being finished around us.

What the concrete scarifying and crack injection involved
- The ramp surface scarified along its full length to take off the top layer
- The ramp ground with a floor grinder and hand grinders, all on dust extraction
- Cracks in the deck and at the bottom of the ramp sealed, ported and injected with an epoxy injection resin
- Ports removed and the injected cracks cleaned back flush once the resin had cured

What made it hard
The ramp is elevated, narrow and curved, with open edges fenced by safety mesh. Every machine, hose and lead had to fit inside that strip, and nothing could go over the edge.
The site was close to handover, so the landscaping, balustrades and buildings around the ramp were already finished and had to stay clean.
Crack injection only works when each crack is sealed tight and the resin is pushed in port by port. It takes patience, and the cracks were spread across the deck and ramp.

How it was done
The crew started with a walk behind scarifier up the ramp, then followed with a floor grinder and a dust vacuum to take the surface down evenly. Edges and tight spots against the kerbs were finished by hand.
For the cracks, each one was cleaned, sealed on the surface and fitted with injection ports. Resin was injected from the lowest port up until it showed at the next one. Once cured, the ports were cut off and the surface cleaned back.

Outcome
The ramp was handed back to Epoca scarified and ground, with the cracks injected and cleaned off, and the builder's site supervisor signed off each day's work.

Lessons learned on this job
Every job teaches the crew something. These are the ones we took from Murarrie.
What worked
- Scarifying first, then grinding, so the grinder only had to even out the surface
- Dust extraction on every machine, next to finished landscaping and buildings
- Injecting from the lowest port up, so each crack filled fully
What was difficult
- A narrow, curved, elevated ramp with open edges
- Keeping finished work around the ramp clean close to handover
- Cracks spread across the deck, each one sealed and injected on its own
If you have something similar
Ramps, decks and paths on new public facilities often need surface prep and crack repair right at the end. Have a look at our concrete grinding Brisbane and crack injection Brisbane pages, see another handover job at Burleigh Heads, or get in touch.
