Innovative Access Solution for a Deep Shaft Penetration
Perfect Concrete Care was recently engaged by John Holland to execute a technically demanding wall penetration at a site in Mascot. The objective was to create a single opening through a 1-metre-thick concrete wall located within a deep shaft.
Due to limited access conditions – including internal scaffolding and no available crane or mechanical lifting – the project called for a highly controlled and manual approach.
Our Solution
To overcome the access and handling limitations, we implemented a stitch-core drilling method. This technique allowed our operators to break the wall into smaller, manageable segments that could be removed safely by hand while working from an elevated work platform (EWP).
The project was further optimised through the use of a track-mounted core drilling system, which eliminated the need to place a new anchor every few holes. This setup enabled continuous drilling, improving speed and accuracy while significantly reducing the overall job time by approximately 30%.
