Project Overview
Perfect Concrete Care was engaged as a specialist contractor on the Cross River Rail – Tunnel and Stations Works Contract, contributing directly to the delivery of Brisbane’s most transformative public transport project.
As part of the CBGU D&C Joint Venture, our team was tasked with complex demolition works within a live transport corridor, delivering precision slab removal, safe rebar exposure, and surface remediation across Platform 2 of Roma Street Station.
About the Cross River Rail Project
Cross River Rail is a 10.2 km rail line project spanning from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, with 5.9 km of twin tunnelsunder the Brisbane River and CBD. The broader infrastructure upgrade includes the construction of four new underground stations:
- Boggo Road
- Woolloongabba
- Albert Street
- Roma Street
This multibillion-dollar upgrade is designed to unlock capacity and transform public transport in Queensland.
Perfect Concrete Care’s Scope of Work
Platform 2 – Key Deliverables:
- Full demolition and removal of two key slab sections:
- Slab 1 (Busway side)
- Slab 2 (Track side)
- Execution of night works under strict time windows to avoid disruption to live bus traffic
- Coordination with CBGU’s traffic management teams to ensure complete safety during busway closures
- Clean-up and surface reinstatement following demolition
- Rebar exposure and protection, including:
- 1 metre of rebar to be exposed in designated zones
- All rebar scanned, jointly marked, and photographed per CBGU procedures
- Strict damage minimisation protocols during all slab removal activities
Site Access and Safety
Due to the location’s complexity and high-risk nature, all works were delivered under enhanced controls:
- Night shift scheduling for the busway slab
- Full compliance with WHS legislation, permit systems, and CBGU’s site-specific protocols
- Supply of all materials, plant, labour, PPE, supervision, and administrative support
- Ongoing reporting, QA documentation, and progress coordination with the main contractor
Challenges & Coordination
Working within the active bus corridor at Roma Street presented significant logistical challenges. Our team coordinated closely with CBGU and transport authorities to schedule precise demolition windows. Maintaining compliance, ensuring safety around live traffic, and avoiding any disruption to corridor operations were top priorities.
Conclusion
This project reflects the calibre of work Perfect Concrete Care brings to major infrastructure partnerships — combining technical demolition capabilities, rigorous site management, and safe execution under pressure.
We’re proud to support the progress of Cross River Rail and contribute to a better-connected Brisbane.
