When TfNSW identified a missing link of high standard road between Sydney and Bomaderry in 2017, planning began in earnest for half a billion dollars in upgrades. So when it came time for primary contractor Fulton Hogan to award cutting works, Perfect Concrete Care was a strong choice. As part of the larger Perfect Group comprising origin demolition contractor Perfect Contracting and specialised labour hirer Perfect Hire, PCC was well positioned to bring the standard of work benchmarked by tier one projects such as this.
With over a dozen Concrete Care vans at his disposal and the project marching towards delivery, PCC GM Jaro Murgas mobilised the troops, and the vast volume of cutting work began. Due to the sheer scale of the project and the broad spectrum of existing infrastructure needing attention. At least one operator was allocated full-time to the project from January 2020 until its completion later this year. PCC’s scope was extensive, to say the least, at times requiring us to use every type of machine we own in simultaneous operation. Bridges and overpasses needed wall sawing. Highways needed road sawing. Footings needed demo sawing. Columns and beams needed core drilling.
There wasn’t an aspect of the existing infrastructure that didn’t need modifying or demolishing in some way. Further challenges included a two-hour trip to the site and 24/7 serviceability. There is also short notice readiness, and working on an only partially closed national highway. It led to extremely narrow operational windows to complete works. To date, Perfect Concrete Care has been delivered on time and within budget with zero incidents.
The Albion Park Rail Bypass is a six hundred and thirty million dollar engineering feat. It will help ease the flow of road traffic between Greater Sydney and the Illawarra/Shoalhaven and South East/Tablelands regions.
