Supporting Major Infrastructure with Specialist Concrete Cutting
Perfect Concrete Care was engaged to deliver a precision wire saw cutting package at Roma Street Station, one of the most active zones within the Cross River Rail project—Queensland’s largest public transport infrastructure upgrade.
Our client, the CBGU Joint Venture (CPB BAM Ghella UGL), required accurate cutting of a reinforced concrete capping beam as part of temporary access works into the future underground station.
Scope of Works
Our team completed the cutting of a 1-metre wide x 600mm high x 12-metre long concrete beam, which was then sectioned into manageable 4-metre blocks. The process was executed using our Tyrolit WCE14P wire saw, supported by core drilling to pass the diamond wire through the structure.
This approach enabled non-destructive, vibration-free cutting, ideal for sensitive environments like live infrastructure zones.
Key Challenges & Execution
The beam itself posed a unique technical challenge—it followed a slight angle rather than a perfectly straight line. This required:
- Precise wire alignment to maintain cutting tolerances across the angled geometry
- Strategic core drilling to guide the wire path without damaging surrounding structures
- Accurate sectioning for safe removal and downstream construction work
Despite the complexity, our team completed the work safely, on time, and with exacting precision, enabling CBGU JV to continue progress on critical site access requirements.
